Efren “Bata” Reyes, a name that will always ring a bell in every pool fan’s head from any place around the world is the name of a 66 year old pool player that’s considered as the greatest pool player of all time as well as the highest paid professional pool player for winning more than 70 titles in pool tournaments around the world. His great achievements surely leave a question to pool fans about how much money he has collected from the countless tournaments he has participated in his career as a pro pool player. If you’re one of those fans who’re still wondering about the legend’s financial achievements so far, then here’s the summary of prize money collected by the legendary Efren “Bata” Reyes from time to time based on AZB that we divide into 5 decade periods.

Number 5.
Prize money from 1980s tournaments. Even though Efren “Bata” Reyes has been introduced to pool game since he was 5 after he moved to Manila with his uncle who owned a pool hall, he only started to win pool tournaments in 1980s. However, most of the tournaments he participated in 1980s were only local tournaments in Philippines. One of those tournaments was the Philippine Professional Pocket Billiards Championship, where he beat Pepito Dacer in a race to 39 by 39 against 32 matches won. His winning in the local tournament allowed him to participate in world-class pool tournaments. One of them was the US Open 9-Ball Championship in 1985. Unfortunately, he was only able to secure second runner-up position that granted him prize money worth 1,500 US Dollars. Also, it was the only known world-class tournament that Reyes participated, making the 1,500 US Dollar reward his financial achievement from the 1980s period that he achieved from participating in a tournament. However, he claims that he was able to collect 80,000 US Dollars in a week by hustling in the US back then. So, it can be concluded that he was still holding back from participating in tournaments to be able to collect money from the hustling.

Prize money from 1990s tournaments. In the 1990s period, Efren “Bata” Reyes started to participated in more pool tournaments, especially in US Open Championships and WPA World Championships. The record data from AZB states that Reyes collected 146960 US Dollars in the 1990s period. However, the actual number should be more than 200,000 US Dollars because the data don’t include the prize money Reyes got from his memorable winning in the 1999 WPA World 9-Ball Championship, which was still named World Professional Pool Championship due to having not recognized by the WPA yet. The highest total prize money he got in the 1990s period was from the tournaments he participated in 1999, which was worth 93,360 US Dollars. The highest price money should be from his winning in the 1999 World Professional Pool Championship but because it was not included in the AZB data, the highest prize money came from the ESPN Ultimate Challenge Men’s Shootout, which was worth 40,000 US Dollars. The second highest prize money at the time also came from the ESPN Ultimate Challenge, but from the Men’s Division category, which was worth 25,000 US Dollars. As for the remaining 28,360 US Dollars, they came from the 8 other tournaments he participated in, including the US Open 9-Ball Championship where he got the 7th position and 4,000 US Dollars as the prize money. As for the second highest total amount of prize money Reyes collected in the 1999s period, it was from the only one tournament he won in 1994. The said tournament was the US Open 9-Ball Championship, which was also very memorable because his winning in the tournament made him the first non-American pool player to win the tournament. The tournament itself granted Reyes with prize money worth 15,000 US Dollars. As for the other years in the 1990s period, Reyes collected 1,800 US Dollars in 1993, 10,000 US Dollars in 1995, 12,500 US Dollars in 1996, 12,500 US Dollars in 1997, and 1,800 US Dollars in 1998.
